Three Fiber Collaborative Regenerated Yarn Platform

Suedwolle Group from Germany has collaborated with Chinese seamless clothing professional enterprises UTO and Lycra to develop a series of performance sportswear made entirely from recycled polyester fibers made from textile waste. This series was showcased at the Performance Days exhibition held in Munich from October 13th to 14th, based on a new type of yarn that combines ultra-fine Merino wool, Coolmax EcoMade recycled polyester fibers, and fine polyamide filaments. Coolmax EcoMade fibers are produced through a textile to textile recycling process, using 100% textile waste as raw material, providing moisture management and fast drying performance. These characteristics complement the natural temperature regulation and moisture absorption buffering properties of Merino wool, while polyamide filament contributes durability and stability during processing. This yarn was developed by Suedwolle’s Suedwebs Innovation Center and designed as a universal material platform for a range of performance applications, combining snug comfort with the functionality required for sportswear.

Seamless knitting expands terminal applications

UTO uses seamless knitting technology to make the yarn into a series of clothing covering the base layer, yoga, tennis, and golf.

. This method directly integrates fit, sportiness, and functional characteristics into the knitted structure, reducing reliance on traditional cutting and sewing structures. Each application has different requirements for materials: the basic layer prioritizes moisture management and temperature regulation, yoga clothing requires flexibility and snug comfort, tennis clothing must adapt to higher intensity exercise and sweating, while golf clothing needs to maintain comfort over long periods of time and changing weather conditions.

This collaboration demonstrates how a single yarn platform containing textile to textile recycled fibers can be adapted to different end uses through yarn engineering and seamless clothing structures.

. Each company has not disclosed the exact proportions of the three fiber components in the yarn or the overall recycled content of the finished clothing.

Significance for the polymer additive industry

From the perspective of the fiber and fabric column, the value of this yarn platform lies not only in the source of textile waste from recycled polyester, but also in the synergistic stability of the three fiber components in spinning and post-processing.

. Polyamide filament plays a role in durability and stability during processing, while the blend of ultra-fine Merino wool and recycled polyester poses higher requirements for spinning technology and fiber surface protection. For the polymer additive industry, the thermal oxidative aging and photo aging risks of fibers in the spinning, knitting, and subsequent dyeing and finishing processes of such multi-component yarns need to be considered in the formulation design. The application of antioxidants and weather resistant stabilization systems in recycled polyester fibers and polyamide filaments helps maintain the consistency of yarn performance during processing and use, especially in the complex aging scenarios of sweat, ultraviolet radiation, and repeated washing faced by sportswear. This case also suggests that in the case where the regeneration content and fiber ratio are not disclosed, the additive scheme needs to balance compliance and performance verification, rather than simply pursuing a single indicator. With the reduction of cutting and sewing steps in seamless knitted structures, the stability of yarns before weaving has become a key variable affecting the quality of finished products. This provides a realistic demand scenario for the adaptation of fiber antioxidants and weather resistant stabilizing agents in spinning oil or masterbatch systems.
